(June 5, 2022) Concept cars tend to live ephemeral lives. They appear at an event or two, create headlines if they’re lucky, and then disappear into the ether once they’re no longer of use. Some, however, attain legendary status. The 1960s in particular witnessed the emergence of the show-stopper as we know it, car manufacturers seeing the value of creating a one-off purely to foretell what’s coming down the road and broadcast styling trends and create a little excitement ahead of launching a new model.

Opening to the public on June 11, the new exhibit includes a definitive collection of groundbreaking 1932 Fords such as Doane Spencer’s historic Highboy and the influential McGee Roadster.

The first-ever Mecum Tulsa auction, held in June of last year, resulted in $22.1 million overall with a trio of Ford GTs achieving placement as the top three highest-dollar sales, led by a 2006 model that brought $330,000.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe sells for $143.1 million

This icon of automotive history is an absolute rarity – one of just two prototypes built at the time. Named after its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, it is considered to be one of the finest examples of automotive engineering and design by automotive experts and enthusiasts worldwide.

2,400 road art and memorabilia offerings set for Mecum’s Indy Spring Classic

(April 27, 2022) WALWORTH, Wis. — More than 2,400 lots of Road Art and memorabilia and nine private collections have been consigned for auction at Dana Mecum’s 35th Original Spring Classic to take place this May 13-21 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, and all of it will be offered at no reserve. Most of the items will be offered from a designated, Road Art-exclusive auction block, and Monday, May 16, will be dedicated solely to the offering of Road Art.

World’s oldest Bentley T-Series gets new life

(April 15, 2022) CREWE, England — After decades of being off the road and in storage, the very first Bentley T-Series is being brought back to life after the start of a complete wheels-up restoration. The 6¼-liter pushrod V8 has been started for the first time in at least 15 years, and the engine and gearbox have proven to be in good condition despite their extended rest. After a restoration project slated to take at least 18 months and that will return the car to outstanding condition, it will be added to Bentley’s expanding Heritage Collection of road-going cars that together describe all 103 years of Bentley’s history.
