Century-old Ford plant in Florida to be torn down

(October 21, 2022) A car plant that Henry Ford opened in Jacksonville, Fla., nearly a century ago is slated to be demolished over the objections of local historical preservationists. The Jacksonville City Council last week unanimously approved the property owner's request to tear down the building to allow for new waterfront development, the Florida Times-Union reported. The owner said experts who assessed the building said it was too damaged to repair.

Mecum takes on two cities in one weekend for $36.4 million in sales

(October 19, 2022) Mecum Auctions is well known for setting records and taking on never-before-achieved challenges, and the company took it to another level this past weekend by holding two auctions simultaneously in two different cities located a full 600 miles apart. One of the events, Mecum Chicago 2022, was held Oct. 13-15 in Schaumburg, Ill., and brought $15.2 million in total sales, while the other, Mecum Chattanooga 2022, was held Oct. 14-15 in Tennessee and reached overall sales totals of $21.2 million.

Antique car show and flea market returns to Hershey

(September 16, 2022) AACA National and the Hershey Region AACA welcome back antique car enthusiasts to Hershey, Pa., for the 67th Eastern Fall Nationals, Oct. 4-7. The big difference for this year’s event is the change in the days it is being held. The flea market and car corral will be Tuesday-Friday and the car show will be on Friday. (In the past, the car show has been held on Saturday.)

Record-setting $55.2 million at Mecum Dallas 2022 auction

(September 16, 2022) Mecum’s Dallas 2022 classic and collector car auction lent credence to the claim that everything is bigger in Texas with a record-setting total achieved at the 12th annual event in one of the Lone Star State’s most populous cities. A total of 1,191 vehicles hammered sold in just four days, Sept. 7-10, for an 84% sell-through rate and more than $55.2 million in sales, which amounted to a 50% increase over the auction’s previous record total of $36.8 million. The number of consignments increased by 45% over last year’s Dallas event, and ticket sales saw a 60% increase.
