Team Penske to offer private car collection at Mecum auction May 10-18

(May 2, 2024) The winningest team in Indy 500 history and its visionary owner will take the Mecum Auctions stage in Indianapolis by storm this May with a wide selection of vehicles on offer from their private collection of pace cars and more. Roger Penske and the Team Penske racing organization have consigned an assemblage of 17 cars for auction at Dana Mecum’s 37th Original Spring Classic, May 10-18, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, joining an estimated 3,000 collector vehicles to be offered in total throughout the nine-day auction event.

(April 20, 2024) Dana Mecum’s Original Spring Classic is Mecum’s second-largest annual collector car auction, with the 2023 iteration achieving $113 million in total sales. This year’s return to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the event’s 37th year will take place May 10-18 and will draw an estimated 3,000 vehicles while also featuring daily Road Art selections, exhibitors, the Dodge Thrill Ride and, of course, the ceaseless high-energy Mecum auction action.

Among the highlights of the collection is an extensively customized Torch Red 1973 Corvette convertible and a restored 1954 Buick Skylark convertible that is one of 836 examples produced for that model year.

According to Barrett-Jackson, the 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE being auctioned at its April 18-20 Palm Beach event was the last one personally owned by Burt Reynolds.
