(August 4, 2021)  Classic and collector car auction company Mecum Auctions achieved unprecedented success in Orlando this past weekend with an auction event dubbed the Summer Special. Featuring 1,056 cars on offer throughout four days of heated auction action, the July 28-31 event saw overall sales reach $35 million as 850 vehicles hammered sold for a strong 80% sell-through rate.

America’s Sports Car made a dominant showing in Orlando with half of the top 10-selling vehicles wearing the iconic crossed-flags Corvette branding. There was a tie for the highest sale of the auction, as both a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback and a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible  demanded final selling prices of $352,000. Two more Corvettes followed with a ’63 split window  selling for $324,500 and a 1966 coupe  bringing $297,000.

A custom-built, one-of-one 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose with a rare factory power kit landed the fifth seat among top sales at $286,000, and a nearly new 2021 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak that is one of just 50 produced achieved $209,000. Other top sellers included a 2017 Dodge Viper SRT GTC Coupe that brought $247,500 and a 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback  that sold for $231,000.
