Restored 1961 MGA Outlaw headlines Petersen digital gala, auction

(September 14, 2020) LOS ANGELES — The Petersen Automotive Museum will auction off several lots through online auction house Bring a Trailer as part of its upcoming digital gala experience on Sept. 26. Significant auction highlights include a fully restored 1961 MGA Outlaw and a six-night stay in a Scottish castle complete with a private chef and house staff. Additional lots for auction encompass a once-in-a-lifetime ride with driver Bruce Canepa in a Porsche 935 at Sonoma Raceway and a very special vehicle allocation that will be announced next week.

The auction benefits The Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation, which provides educational programming for underprivileged students in the Los Angeles community.

Marking the first frame-off restoration completed entirely by the Petersen Automotive Museum, the 1961 MGA Outlaw features larger carbs, a hot cam, disc brakes, new suspension components, and a modern Oxblood interior; wire wheels set off the exterior appearance.

“Each year, the gala provides significant funding for the Petersen Automotive Museum’s various programs from education of our guests to preservation of our collection,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “Although the gala looks different this year, the support is more critical than ever. By supporting the Petersen Automotive Museum’s gala, guests are ensuring that we can continue to educate youth, engage with the community, and preserve car culture for future generations.”

The Petersen Automotive Museum’s 26th Annual Gala Celebration will be an entirely digital experience for ticket holders. Highlights of the evening include 45 minutes of exclusive content, archival footage, and a gift bag, which will be shipped to guests’ home addresses.

Virtual gala guests will receive a link to the portal via email the day before the event. All content will be available to ticket holders until Oct. 1. All proceeds from the sale of tickets and auction lots will benefit The Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation. A portion of the ticket is tax-deductible.
