Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction to feature resto-mod SUVs

(January 9, 2022) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Barrett-Jackson is curating an extraordinary docket of professionally-built Resto-Mod SUVs for the auction company’s 50th anniversary celebration at WestWorld of Scottsdale, January 22-30. All of the exceptional SUVs will cross the block at No Reserve, including the 1972 Ford Bronco that was selected as one of the “Top 10 Trucks” at the SEMA Show Battle of the Builders.

“There’s an almost insatiable demand by collectors to include a Resto-Mod SUV in their collections,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “I have one in my collection as well. The SUVs built by American automakers between the 1960s and 1980s have specifically seen a meteoric rise in popularity. A great deal of that has to do with the talent and imagination that today’s professional builders are pouring into the classic Chevrolet K5s and Ford Broncos.”

The award-winning 1972 Ford Bronco is an over-the-top build by Matt Hunt of Muscle Cars Inc. It is powered by a stroked 347ci Holley Terminator X fuel-injected V8 engine producing 480 horsepower and paired to an automatic transmission with overdrive. Interior tech includes a Rockford Fosgate PMX-5 head unit in the dash and Rockford Fosgate PMX-3 controller in the center console for back seat control.

The 1968 Ford Bronco Icon is powered by a 5.0 Coyote V8 engine and paired up with a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission. Additional exterior features include a custom front Icon grille, front winch bumper with a WARN 9.5 XL winch, exterior-mounted spare tire and power tank auxiliary air system.

The Chevrolet 1970 K5 convertible  is the product of more than 1,200 hours and is powered by a new GM LS7 engine mated to a GM Connect-and-Cruise 4L75E automatic overdrive transmission. The interior includes all-new upholstery, carpet and weatherstripping., Vintage Air climate control system, Dakota Digital RTX instrument cluster and a reproduction AM/FM stereo.

A 3-door 1968 Chevrolet Suburban has more than 1,400 hours poured into its build, which was completed in November 2021,  and features a GM LS7 engine with GM Connect-and-Cruise 4L75E 4-speed automatic transmission. The interior includes all-new upholstery, carpet and weatherstripping; as well as Vintage Air heating and cooling and a Dakota Digital RTX instrument cluster.

Other classic Resto-Mod SUVs offered at No Reserve during the Scottsdale Auction include:

    •    1968 Ford Bronco – Built by Maxlider Brothers Customs, it sits on a Black Beard Broncos custom chassis and is powered by a 5.0 liter Coyote engine. The modern interior features power steering, air conditioning, double-DIN touchscreen Bluetooth stereo and a Maxlider Bros electro-vintage gauge cluster.

    •    1972 Ford Bronco  – Painted in BASF Diamond base coat Ceramic Gray with DC92 Lifetime clear coat, it is powered by a 5.0 liter Coyote engine paired to a 6R80 6-speed automatic transmission and features a Satin Black interior, and black Mellohide seats with plaid by Ralph Lauren.

 •    1972 Chevrolet Blazer – Powered by a new GM LS2 engine paired to a TCI 3-speed automatic transmission. It is painted in PPG Root Beer Brown with a single wall top in a Vanilla Bean Cream; the interior is finished in Basketball Orange with Pepita Houndstooth inserts and includes Classic Instruments gauges, a Retrosound stereo and upgraded climate control.
     
    •    1966 Ford Bronco 4x4  – A 2.5 year restoration completed in 2021, it is powered by a 5.0 liter Coyote engine; the Bronco is finished in chalk gray over custom red interior with black accents and features tilt forward front seats with a rear tumble seat, as well as a custom dashboard with red Dakota Digital gauges, JBL Bluetooth radio and hidden windshield wipers.
      
    •    1976 Ford Bronco – Includes a 5.0-liter Coyote engine with a Ford Performance control pack with custom exhaust, BC Broncos front accessory kit and engine mounts, Ron Davis radiator and electric fan with shroud, Hydra-Boost power 4-wheel disc brakes, new Borgeson power steering box, front sway bar, stock rebuilt Dana 20 transfer case with Advance Adapters and crossmember with twin-stick shifters.
    
    •    1972 Ford Bronco  – This first generation 1972 Bronco started as a rust-free Bronco before it began a meticulous and documented nut-and-bolt frame-off restoration. It is powered by a new 408ci stroked 351 Windsor V8 mated to a C6 automatic transmission with less than 1,000 miles on the new engine.
